PLEASE SOLICIT TRIBUTES - ONLY TEN DAYS LEFT
Dear Singers: This note is a little long, but please read all the way through. thanks. g)
There are just 10 days left to sponsor a song on a program and honor a woman or women in your life! (the program booklet has to be delivered to the printer!)
I hope by now that you have all asked your friends and family to sponsor a song in tribute or memory of a woman in your life.
Some of the benefits to the donor and Philo are obvious:
Honoring your loved one, tax write-off, financially helping a community music program to stay afloat, etc.
Maybe less obvious is the important benefit of ENGAGEMENT.
This is an opportunity for an audience member, the friends, family, and the honoree to have a bigger part in the whole concert. It's a tangible way to feel engaged with the music-making and connected to our community. We need that so much right now and connection and engagement are part of our mission statement- what we hope we will provide to our audience with our singing.
Here's how some are taking advantage of the opportunity:
- Some singers have sponsored a song themselves and dedicated it in honor or memory of someone they love and admire.
- One singer suggested/requested a note be sent to the honoree from Philo in a Mother's Day card. I am so happy to oblige that request. (Remember, the dedication also will be printed in the program booklet.)
- Some singers have offered free concert tickets to their friends if they would sponsor a song. (Great idea from Jim and Chris!)
- Several singers have their families involved, for example, to honor their Mother, or a beloved Aunt, sharing the $250 donation.
Below is the note Cyndi Skripak sent to her family. With comments from the family. 🙂 worth reading!
10 days to go. Please help make this a success. Let your peeps know about the opportunity. You'll be surprised by some who will find this important to them.
(Concert in 23 days, but who is counting?) Gayle
This is the note Cyndi sent:
Hi Gayle,
See below for the email I sent to the women in my family, which is especially relevant after our recent genealogy weekend. I've included some comments I received about it, too. It's been well received!
"I love this idea, Cyndi! Given how we joke about our beleaguered Skripak husbands, I do love Abigail Adams’s quote, but in my heart, I support Michelle Obama‘s quote. We cannot say this enough in this world: We are each a beloved part of the American story." (from my sis Pam)
"Absolutely, so creative." (from my mom)
-Cyndi
Hi Amazing Skripak Family Women!
Would you consider a special tribute to our mothers, grandmothers, and ancestors for Mother's Day?
My choir-Philomusica Chorale- is doing a special piece that uses quotes from women in Washington, and we have the opportunity to sponsor a piece in honor of a special woman or women in our lives. (And it's also a fundraiser, of course.)
Would each of you be willing to contribute to my choir for this tribute? It means a lot to me, especially as a Board member (and Dave, too) and it's another way to support the arts in this crazy world.
If each of you donated around $20 (or any amount you could), we'd basically have it covered. I'll start the donation with $50, and fund the gap, if we need to at the end.
The best way would be to Venmo me.
By the way, it will be a great concert, although we will be at the wedding with most of you on that day. You can buy a ticket to watch the live stream later, if you'd like to hear the piece. It's fun and interesting.
How about this for a tribute:
To our amazing mothers, grandmothers and ancestors who continue to inspire us with their courage, sense of adventure, zest for life and especially their love. -The women of the Skripak family
I think I would sponsor this song, especially the last sentence, from Michelle Obama:
"I want a President who will teach our children that everyone in this country matters - a President who truly believes in the vision that our founders put forth all those years ago: That we are all created equal, each a beloved part of the great American story.”
Or you might be amused by this one:
Abigail Adams (First Lady) - “Remember the ladies and be more generous and favorable to them than your ancestors. Do not put such unlimited power into the hands of the Husbands.”
You can read more details here (but I have to submit the tribute donation all at once, so better to venmo to me.)
